How to make equivalent fractions

Equivalent fractions represent the same number. Multiplying or dividing both numerator and denominator by the same nonzero number preserves the value. This tool chooses pairs from your selected denominators.

  1. Choose at least two related denominators, such as 2, 4, and 8.
  2. Guided practice leaves numerators blank. Challenge practice also includes missing denominators.
  3. Generate up to 24 questions. If the unique pool is smaller, the tool explains the shortage and exports the available questions.

Worked example

1/2 = ?/8 → 4

The denominator changes from 2 to 8 by multiplying by 4. Multiply the numerator by 4 too: 1 × 4 = 4. Check independently: 1 × 8 and 2 × 4 both equal 8.

Why does my selection produce fewer questions?

Some denominator sets have only a few equivalent pairs. The generator never fills a worksheet by endlessly searching or silently duplicating the same question. Add related denominators or lower the requested count.

What is included in the PDF?

The complete pack contains fraction models, matched-length strips, labeled and blank number lines, both student practice sheets, and a clearly marked teacher answer key. Student-only downloads contain no answers. All materials are original and free to download, with no payment step.

Scope & sources

Common Core Mathematics, 3.NF (printed page 24) describes equal parts, number line representations, equivalence, and comparisons with the same whole; the Grade 3 denominator set is 2, 3, 4, 6, 8. This independent tool supports selected ideas and makes no endorsement or certification claim.
